Your new tattoo is an open wound during the first few days of healing. Proper aftercare is just as important as the tattooing process itself to ensure your custom artwork heals cleanly, maintains rich saturation, and stays sharp for a lifetime. Below are the official guidelines for caring for your new tattoo.

01.LEAVE THE PROTECTIVE BANDAGE ON

Keep the protective film or bandage sealed for the exact timeframe specified by Dustie Rose at the end of your session. Removing your bandage too early exposes fresh, unsealed skin to airborne bacteria, clothing friction, and environmental contaminants.

Key Rule:

Keep the protective wrap sealed cleanly. Once removed, do not re-wrap your tattoo with plastic cling wrap unless explicitly instructed.

02.CLEAN GENTLY WITH BARE HANDS

Once your bandage is safely removed, wash your tattoo using lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free antibacterial soap. Wash using clean bare hands only.

  • Never use washcloths or sponges: Abrasive materials harbor bacteria and scratch delicate healing skin.
  • Pat dry gently: Use a clean paper towel to pat dry. Never rub or scrub the area.

03.THE MICRO-HYDRATION RULE

Apply a micro-thin layer of fragrance-free lotion 2 to 3 times a day. Your skin should feel comfortably hydrated and smooth, never heavy or greasy.

"Over-moisturizing smothers skin pores, traps body heat, and causes scabs to swell, which can pull ink out. Apply only enough lotion to keep the skin supple."

04.AVOID DIRECT SUNLIGHT & SUBMERSION

For the first 3 weeks of healing, protect your tattoo from environmental elements that break down ink pigments:

  • No water submersion: Avoid swimming pools, oceans, lakes, hot tubs, and long soaking baths. Take quick lukewarm showers instead.
  • No direct sun or tanning beds: UV rays break down unsealed ink particles. Once fully healed, always apply SPF 50+ sunscreen outdoors.

05.NEVER PICK OR SCRATCH PEELING SKIN

As your skin heals around days 4 to 10, peeling and mild itching are completely normal parts of skin regeneration.

Never scratch or pick at scabs. Scratching pulls pigment out from the dermal layer, leaving permanent blank spots, blurred lines, and scarring. Let dead skin flake off naturally during gentle washing.

06.REST & AVOID EXCESSIVE SWEATING

Avoid heavy sweating, intense gym workouts, and tight restrictive clothing that rubs against your tattoo for the first 3–5 days. Sweat contains salts and bacteria that irritate healing pores. Wear loose, breathable cotton clothing.

CHRONOLOGICAL HEALING TIMELINE

DAYS 1 – 3

Initial Recovery & Protection

Tenderness, mild redness, and slight swelling are normal. Keep clean, wash with lukewarm water, and pat dry with clean paper towels.

DAYS 4 – 10

Peeling & Shedding

Light peeling and itching begin. Apply a micro-layer of fragrance-free lotion 2-3x daily. Let skin flake naturally — zero scab picking.

WEEKS 2 – 4

Pigment Lock-In & Settling

Outer skin layer finishes healing, and color brilliance returns as new skin cells form over pigment. Continue light daily moisturizing.

WEEKS 4 – 6

Fully Healed Masterpiece

Your tattoo is 100% fully healed. Apply SPF 50+ sunscreen when outdoors. Every Dustie Rose tattoo includes a complimentary 60-day touch-up if needed.
